Journal Writing: The students will further develop their writing skills using self-selected topics and their own developmental spelling.

Opening Exercises: The students will further develop special studies, science, language and math skills as they create and analyze a weather graph, read the message board, show the times for special subjects, record days in school and study the calendar.

Reading Workshop: The students will further their reading skills as they read literature and student-made books. They will work cooperatively to solve written problems.

Readers Theatre:  The students will read using scripts. These will result in formal presentations.

Literature Circles: The students will work in groups as they read and respond to literature. These will include discussions and result in a group project which will be presented to the class.

Mysteries: The students will listen to mysteries and then solve written mysteries in pairs as they further develop their thinking, reading and social skills.

Critical Thinking Skills: The student will solve various problems as they progress through the levels of critical thinking.

Making Words/Phonics: The students will further develop phonetic and structural analysis skills.

Spelling: The students will develop the ability to correctly spell words frequently used in their writing.

Chapter Book: The students will listen to and learn to appreciate the language of theme-related chapter books.

D.E.A.R.: The students will apply and further develop reading skills as they read silently.

Writing Workshop: The students will develop writing skills as they compose their own stories, illustrate, and edit them.

Penmanship: The students will learn to correctly form the letters of the alphabet and show application in their written work.

Learning Centers: The students will receive reinforcement and enrichment through a variety of multi-level, theme-related tasks. Centers: Art, Math, Phonics, Science, Computers, Listening, Writing/Publishing, Language Arts/Math Games and Library.

Math Workshop: The students will work alone and in groups to further develop math skills and apply them to everyday experiences.

Literature/Art/Cooking: The students will further develop reading skills and appreciation of literature through hands on experiences such as art and cooking.

Science/Health: The students will learn more about themselves as they learn about their bodies and environment.

Social Studies: All Social Studies concepts are integrated into the themes and workshops.

Cooperative Learning: The students will learn to work together to solve problems in groups. These problems be theme-related and will involve all skill areas.

Language Arts and Math Games Play: The students will practice the skills learned and received enrichment through the use of play and games. Social skills will be further developed.
